Tripura Chief Minister Biplob Deb has resigned ahead of next year’s Assembly elections

On Saturday, ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, Tripura Chief Minister Biplob Kumar Dev said he had submitted his resignation letter to Governor SN Arya. He made the announcement after meeting the governor at Raj Bhavan.

Veteran BJP leader Bhupendra Yadav has said that the legislators are meeting soon to select the next chief minister.

“The party is above all. I am a loyal BJP worker. I hope I have done justice to the responsibility that was given to me – be it the BJP state president or the chief minister of Tripura. I have worked for the overall development of the country. Tripura, and To ensure peace for the people of the state, ”Dev told reporters.

“The election of 2023 is coming, and the party wants a responsible organizer to take charge of the issues here. A government can be formed only if the organization is strong. After the election, someone must be the chief minister,” he added.

Dev visited New Delhi on Thursday and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Naddar to discuss the party’s issues in the northeastern state.

“The party wants me to work to strengthen the organization,” said the outgoing chief minister.

“People here want a long-term BJP government. If a person like me works for the organization, it will definitely help the cause,” he said.

After the BJP came to power in 2018, Dev was appointed Chief Minister, ending 25 years of Left Front rule.

There are rumors of conflict within the BJP’s state unit.

Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma, who belongs to the former Tripura royal family, is expected to take charge in the interim, sources said.

The state is going to have assembly elections next year.
