The Blower BET range of stillbird helmets has been introduced

Steelbird Hi-Tech India (SBHT) has introduced a new range of helmets called “Blauer BET”. The range of Blauer BET helmets meets the new European safety standards – ‘ECE 22.06’.

It is also worth mentioning that the new European Security Standards-ECE will be effective in India and the world from 22.06 January 2024.

With the launch of the Blauer BET series, Steelbird will be one of the first brands to launch these helmets with new safety standards before being implemented in India.

To give a background, ECE 22.06 was replaced with ECE 22.05 in June 2020; .05 or .06 No. 22 relates to specific amendments and modifications to the Regulation.

A helmet is required for the standard to pass multiple tests called HIC (Head Injury Criterion). A dummy wears a helmet on its head with an accelerometer inside to analyze the maximum acceleration to calculate head damage in the event of an accident.

Tests include shock absorption, retention, and helmet removal. Similar conditions for visas must ensure protection and quality of vision. The manufacturer performs the tests and then submits the report for check to an external certified laboratory. The changes will affect the impact test and how the impact will occur.

Currently, the weight that affects the helmet occurs at a predetermined speed and affects the front, top, back, side and chin guards. With the new standard, other points of influence will be added, not just in the center line but an additional point in each sample, different from each other.

With ECE 22.06, the speed of impact will also change, and in addition to being already established, it will slow down. ECE 22.05 imagines a flat avil in the shape of a footpath and impacts against ‘carbstones’, at a speed of 7.5m / s (28km / h) from a height of 7.5 m, which becomes 5.5 m. With the new ECE 22.06 rule, the effect will be 5.5 and 8.5 meters

Helmet accessories such as the Integrated Sun Vizer will have standards that must be met in order for them to pass the test. Test methods have been modified with the latest science applied to the process.

Impact tests will create more difficult and faster effects as well as lower-speed effects. A new angle rotation will also be introduced in the impact test. EPS is in multiple concentrations so provides much more protection at low weight.

The new rules will take effect in January 2024, giving manufacturers time to create helmets to meet new standards.

After January 2024, riders can still legally wear their ECE 22.05 helmet, but any new helmet supplied by a manufacturer to a distributor or retailer must be certified as ECE 22.06.
