‘Good luck and goodbye’: Former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar on Facebook Live

Former Punjab Provincial Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Sunil Jakhar left the Grand Old Party in a dramatic manner by announcing his resignation on Facebook Live on Saturday. The development comes just hours after he removed Congress from all of its social media handles.

“Hey [Facebook live address] My parting is going to be a gift for the team, ”he said.

Zakhar was stripped of his party post two years ago for “not pointing the finger at the party line.” Zakhar said he was upset with the congressional decision because his family had served the party for more than 50 years and three generations. A day after Zakhar tweeted that he would pour his heart out on Saturday, he resigned.

Regarding the choice of the Congress chief ministerial post after the resignation of Capt Amarinder Singh, Zakhar accused the party of listening to a certain leader of Punjab.

After the Congress lost to the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab earlier this year, Jakhar blamed former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channy for it. “The top is not brass, but its [Channi’s] His greed dragged him and the team, “Zakhar said in a tweet.

Many in the party strongly objected to Zakhar’s remarks against the Channi and Scheduled Caste communities during an interview. Zakhar defended himself by saying that his words were being taken out of context and used against him.

According to a report in the Indian Express, Zakhar accused his party of not choosing him as the chief ministerial candidate because he was a Hindu.

After Singh’s resignation as Chief Minister, Zakhar was considered as an alternative to Amarinder Singh.

Prior to his resignation, Zakhar failed to respond to a causal notice issued by the Congressional Disciplinary Action Committee last month alleging that he had “made an insulting statement against Congress leaders and blamed the leadership’s motives for thinking along communal lines.”
