Delhi building fire: CM announces Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for Kejriwal’s relatives

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday ordered a magisterial inquiry and announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of the victims after inspecting a three-storey commercial Delhi building where at least 27 people were killed in a fire last evening. The Delhi government has also promised Rs 50,000 compensation for the injured.

“It simply came to our notice then. We have deployed help to identify the missing and the dead, “Kejriwal told ANI.

Kejriwal, accompanied by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, visited the spot and reached the spot where the huge fire broke out near Mundka metro station. At least 29 people are still missing.

Earlier today, police arrested company owners Harish Goel and Varun Goel. An FIR is filed under IPC 304 (criminal homicide is not a homicide), 308 (attempted criminal murder), 120 (concealment of a design for committing a criminal offense with imprisonment), 34 (acts committed by several persons to advance a common intent). At least 50 people have been rescued so far and the operation will end in the next 3-4 hours, police said.

The search operation is still going on as many people have gathered around the site to find their loved ones. “My wife is missing,” Vijay told ANI. He worked there as a sales manager. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh to each family who lost their relatives in the fire and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
