Technology for MSME: Amazon on Wednesday launched a smart commerce initiative for local stores to transform it into a ‘digital store’. With Smart Commerce, stores will be able to create their own online storefront to digitize their offline stores, Amazon said. .
“We are pleased that in a short span of time, the program has already grown to over 1.5 lakh stores across India. Inspired by this momentum, I am excited to announce the launch of Smart Commerce, ”said Amit Agarwal, SVP, India and Emerging Markets at Amazon Smbhav, Amazon’s annual virtual summit.
“Shops of any size can now take full advantage of Amazon to provide their customers with a trusted experience, no matter where they are, in their physical store, directly through their own online storefront or amazon.in,” Agarwal said. The initiative is part of Amazon’s commitment to digitize 10 million small businesses by 2025. Since the launch of Amazon in India in June 2013, the company has already digitized 4 million small businesses.
Amazon says its smart commerce program will release the first set of solutions in the coming weeks to help local stores digitize billing and inventory management. The capabilities will then be rolled out so that they can create their own online storefront in minutes and serve their customers through a simple voice and chat-based shopping experience, the company added.
